8 THINGS NOT TO SAY TO A STAY-AT-HOME MUM

Let's be real. We are staying in Singapore. Cost of living here is high. The majority of people my age are working their asses off. Both spouses have to work to maintain an average lifestyle here in Singapore. People I meet usually ask me what am I working as right now and I would tell them I'm a SAHM. I can assure you they would look at me all weird or they would sincerely ask me how to be a stay at home mum. It's unnatural for someone my age here in Singapore to not work. It is really sad that it has come to that. I know many of my friends who would kill to stay home with their children. I just wished the world would be a less savage place where we could do what we want.

Things we need to pay for generally:

- housing (bills and loans which are not cheap)
- childcare (diapers, school and milk; which may cost thousands per month),
- daily expenses (cost of food here varies depending on your location)
- transportation(which I seriously sincerely hate so so much because of the crowd and my motion sickness)
- savings(we are bound to fall sick or get into some kind of trouble so we need savings for rainy days and medical cost here is no joke)

1)WOW! What do you do all day?
I've had people ask me this and I immediately felt my heart burning. I wanted to knock that person's teeth off. You try and stay home with children and see if you can do a decent job.

2)You wouldn't know how tired I am since you stay at home.
This is something I would definitely react to. I've experienced working(teaching 20 children below the age of 4 for the whole day and coming back home to a toddler is no freaking joke. Hats off to all Early Childhood Educators)and also being a stay home mum and let me tell you this, both has its own set of challenges.

3)You're very free right? Can you help me...
I don't know when I'm free. I'm only free because I managed my time well and you can do that too.

4)You must be well rested!

Ha Ha Ha. When I was working and I fell sick, I can stay home and rest. If I have a child, I can just continue to send him to his child care centre so I can get some rest. But now that I am a SAHM, even when I'm sick, I still have to do my job because I have no choice. My child is with me all the time and you have no one else.

5)So when your kids are in school, what do you do?
I'm not even gonna start on this one. you have to truly experience SAHM life to believe me on this one.

6)Your husband must be rich!
Thanks for your well wishes.

7)Will you ever go back to work?
I'm literally working my ass off right now but I'm not paid like you are.

8)Such a waste of your education certs!

Right? But see, being a SAHM requires skills too.

Whatever it is, we have all made sacrifices as parents and that's what matters.

Love,
Ja
