SINUSITIS AND ALLERGY RHINITIS IN TODDLERS

Assalamu'alaikum.

Yesterday was such an emotional roller coaster of a day for me! If you have been reading my blog, you would know that Adam has been unwell for quite some time. Yesterday, we decided to bring him to Polyclinic because his cough came back. It has been gone for a few days but about two days back, it made an appearance again. Much to our despair of course.

Fortunately it wasn't as crowded as we expected it to be, you know given the upcoming long weekend and whatnot. So we managed to see the doctor within half and hour of our arrival. The doctor told us to get Adam xray-ed as his cough has been going on for about 3 months now.

So we went and of course there was a separate payment for it. Surprisingly it was really easy to get Adam to cooperate. He just followed whatever he was told to do, according to Wan; who went in with him. I was really proud of Adam. *beams*

We then had to wait an hour for them to generate the results. It was about 10.30am then. So we went for breakfast. Adam was already saying repeatedly, "Mama, Adam nak eat, Mama."

I apologize for my Chanel eyebags and the quality of the photos.

When the results came in and doctor told us what he saw on the xray, my heart sank. He said that Adam's lungs, note the plural form used here, both lungs were affected and he said it was pneumonia.

He immediately referred us to KK Hospital Accident and Emergency area to get Adam tested further. We rushed home to pack his milk and changed his diaper. We prayed that whatever happens will be for the best regardless of whether he will be warded or not. We went to KKH with heavy hearts.

I was really surprised by the waiting time. We waited barely 5 mins and the nurse attended to us. We managed to see the doctor assigned to Adam in less than 15 minutes. I was impressed but then again maybe we were prioritized because we went through the A&E Department.

The doctor told us that Adam's lungs were both affected but children with Pneumonia have bigger patches on their xrays as compared to Adam's. She mentioned that Adam's xray showed that there were dots present meaning there was something there but it is treatable with antibiotics. I asked sooooo many questions, you have no idea.

Doc also said that everything that Adam is facing right now is because of his sensitive nose and airways. She also said that it's hereditary. He is exactly like me. Surprise surprise. But the problem is, I know what triggers my sinusitis. Adam is still very young and it's really a looooong process of trial and error. So we were sent home with a huge dosage of antibiotics, normal being 2.5ml but Adam has to take 15.5ml per feed. He was also given a nasal spray. Omg, just when I thought I will never see those things again in my life. I still need them during hazy days though.

My poor baby.  =(

Anyways, I was really thankful that it is not so serious and it is something that I'm familiar with. So from now on, Wan and I are on a mission to search for Adam's rhinitis and sinusitis triggers.

Keep us in your prayers.

On a side note, my next gynae appointment is coming up and I'm sooooo nervous and anxious.

*Chants to self*
"You're stronger than you think."
"You're stronger than you think."
"You 're stronger than you think."

Struggling to protect my tummy while Adam wants my attention, persistently tapping me everywhere,
Ja
