DOCTOR'S CONSULTATION
Assalamu'alaikum.
My baby boy has fever. Argh. I worry too much when he is unwell. Wan is way more relaxed than me. Maybe because I've seen children start to shiver badly and their temperature shoot up to 40 degrees in a matter of minutes at work. It scares me.
Adam will cry everytime I place a damp towel on his body or forehead. Breaks my heart every single time. For now his temperature is slightly unstable. Please get well soon baby!!
Yesterday we went to the doctor to get Adam's fever checked. During the consultation, the doctor asked,
"So does he go to school?"
"No." I said.
"Childcare?", he asked.
"No." I replied.
"So no school at all?" he asked again.
"No, no school." I said.
From that conversation, you can tell that most toddlers his age are already in childcare centres. Sometimes parents have no choice. Everything is so expensive. Both spouses have to work.
Towards the end of the consultation, the doctor asked,
"So any of you need child medical cert for work?"
"No, we don't need." Wan and I answered.
"For today, don't need? How about for tomorrow?" he asked
"No, we don't need it for tomorrow as well." we replied.
He gave us the 'why don't they need medical certs' kinda look. From that conversation, I gathered that all Singaporeans our age are working their asses off while their children are in childcare centres.
Whenever I meet someone new, they will ask, "Oh, so who's taking care of Adam?" or "Which childcare does he go to?" They just assume that everyone who gives birth will hand over their child to someone else after 'pantang' because that's how our society is here. Society says, its weird to be a 27 year old stay at home mum. I'm blessed to have the year off but I will start working again very soon and Adam will be in a childcare centre soon too. But I'm glad I got to witness his growth and most of his 'firsts' this past year.
Feeling emotional while staring(*creepily*) at Adam sleep,
Ja
